Taking the leap

If you’re anything like me, perfectionism can stop you from getting things done.

I get worried about all the things that can go wrong. I get worried about not being good enough. And of course I always blame myself when things don’t work out. Like most of us I am my own harshest critic. While this keeps me safe, it also means that over time many of my ideas have remained just that… ideas.

But this time, I am replacing perfectionism with bravery and I have taken the leap. I have started my own business.

Starting my own business has helped me to define my purpose. And it was simpler than I thought. I want to take care of my family. I want to help others take care of their families too. And this time I’m not going to let perfectionism get in the way.

I started with an idea then I reached out to experts that I trusted (finance, marketing, IT) and listened to their advice. Most of all I did it imperfectly, without getting all of my ducks immaculately lined up. I took the leap: and I survived!

I want you to take the leap, too. You know that you should have a will, but you don’t feel like you have all your ducks in a row. All you need to know is that you really do need a will: no matter your situation. It’s never too early, and it’s never too late.

I can see so many parallels between launching your own business and organising your will:

Just as I hired experts to help get my business off the ground, you need an expert for your estate planning. I am a focused wills lawyer: which means I’m 100% focused on helping you create an estate plan which cherishes and protects the things that matter to you the most.

Just as I hired an expert to draft my business plan, setting out my purpose, plans and goals to safeguard mine and my family’s future, your will does the same for your life. Together we’ll explore the best way to achieve your estate planning goals. Your estate plan will safeguard your future financial, health and lifestyle choices.

Just as in my own business I can do things my way - subject to the laws - you can do the same with your will. You get to make choices about your funeral arrangements, young children, pets and your property following your death. I can tell you if your wishes are in alignment with the law and we can adjust them where needed.

People often tell me that it’s scary talking about death. I get that. I think that dentists are scary too but I still go every year. There are lots of things that cause death, but talking about it isn’t one of them 🙂

Please don’t let fear get in the way. Once you’ve completed your will, you will feel like a superstar, having given yourself and your family certainty and peace of mind. You will deserve a latte and warm almond croissant and you might even do a little skip as you leave my office.

And I will have an almond croissant to celebrate the completion of your estate plan too. You see, your success is tied to my success. I started my business so that I could help you and your family: despite my worries, what-ifs, doomsayer thoughts and superstitions. So when you get your will organised I will feel like a superstar too.
